Product information Vuzix M400
The Vuzix M400 is one of the best smart glasses for business on the market. The M400 is built for the workplace and is ideally suited for use in manufacturing, field service and warehouse logistics.
The Vuzix M400 has four key advantages:
Firstly, the Vuzix M400 has an outstanding camera. Providing 4K video and 12.8 MP camera shots. This allows for easier error spotting/diagnostics, therefore, enabling a higher level of work efficiency.
The second advantage of the Vuzix M400, compared to its predecessor the M300XL, is that it’s designed for use in harsh environments, the M400 can withstand falls from 2 meters and has an IP67 rating for water and dust.
Another key advantage is the Vuzix M400’s weight. Weighing only 190 grams including battery, glass frames, and USB cable it’s one of the lightest smart glasses on the market right now.
Lastly, the Vuzix M400 has backward compatibility with most accessories of previous Vuzix Smart Glasses. This includes the Safety Glasses Frames and a Powerback of 2000 mAh.
Additional Information Vuzix M400
The Vuzix M400 is backward compatible with most accessories from previous Vuzix Smart Glasses, so the price may vary depending on which accessories are ordered with it. The price of the Vuzix M400 is €1699,-, this puts it in the middle of the current Vuzix AR headsets. The Vuzix M400 provides similair features to the Vuzix M4000 (€2299,-) for a more affordable price.
Specifications Vuzix M400
Display & picture quality
The M400 display sits in front of one eye (left or right) and the angle can be adjusted simultaneously with the camera. The display is a small but high-quality OLED screen. OLED screens generally offer better contrast than LCD screens because they produce a darker black. That’s why the M400’s display remains bright even when it is under direct sunlight.
Camera
The M400 has a 12.8 megapixel camera. In addition, it has the option to film with a 4K camera, making it one of the few in the market that can film 4K. Finally, it has an autofocus function called PDAF. This is technology that allows this Vuzix’s camera to focus directly on the environment.
Comfort of the headset
The M400 AR headset is very light and therefore the user experiences little pressure. It is uncomfortable that the Vuzix M400 frame mainly rests on the nose and ears, especially when the smart glass is worn for a longer period of time.
The content available
Most remote expertise platforms can be found in the Vuzix App store. Exceptions are Microsoft Remote Assist 365 and Microsoft teams, which must be installed manually. Unfortunately, the app store can be quite slow from time to time.
Robustness
The battery and camera feel sturdy. However, the frame that holds it together is a lot more fragile.
Certifications
IP67: Protected against the ingress of dust. Protected against submersion between 15 centimeters and 1 meter deep. Fall resistant to a height of 2 meters.
Software
The M400 runs on Android 8.1. This has the advantage that you can install Android applications (.APK files) on the M400 yourself. Not all Android applications are compatible, so testing is recommended.
Battery Life
The M400 has a 1000 mAh “hot-swappable” battery. This translates to a battery life of 2.5 to 3 hours. The short battery life is one of the biggest drawbacks of this Vuzix device. Especially compared to the 6-hour battery life of the RealWear HMT-1.
Weight
The M400 smart glasses weighs only 180 grams, making it the lightest smart glass in its segment.
Field of view
The FOV of the M400 is 16.8 degrees.
