Do you need a Facebook account to use the Oculus Quest 2?

Yes you need a Facebook account to use the Oculus Quest 2. When starting up the Oculus Quest 2 for the first time, it must be configured with a Facebook account. The only exception to this is if you buy an Oculus Quest for Business headset, this is significantly more expensive.

Can I create a fake Facebook account?

This is always possible, but it is not recommended. Facebook actively tracks these types of profiles and the company has the right to delete an account without the user’s real name, as stated in Facebook’s terms of service. If you are caught with a fake Facebook account, your account on Oculus will be deleted with all (paid) applications.

What happens to my data?

The data of how a user uses his or her VR headset is linked to the Facebook profile of the user. This gives Facebook an overview of what kind of person the company is dealing with. However, Facebook cannot just do this without a struggle. For example, the sale of Oculus products in Germany is currently temporarily banned because Facebook violates the privacy rules of the country.

Can I still use my current Oculus account?

A user who currently owns an Oculus account can continue to use it until 2023. With one Oculus account you can pair up to five headsets without experiencing any problems.

Do other VR headsets have this too?

Other VR headsets are not affected by this problem. With the Pico Neo 3, for example, you don’t need an account at all.
