PICO Space Pro: Project Swan gets an official name and September 2 China launch event
PICO has moved its next-generation XR flagship one step closer to market. In a new official teaser, the company publicly named the device PICO Space Pro and scheduled a China product launch event for 2 September 2026 at 2:30 PM Beijing time. Until now, the headset had been discussed publicly under the internal codename Project Swan. The new name is the biggest public update since PICO first previewed Project Swan and PICO OS 6 in March. However, the teaser does not yet publish a complete specification sheet, price, or international retail timetable. For enterprise buyers, the useful question is therefore not only “when does it launch?”, but what PICO has actually confirmed so far and what still needs to be answered.
Project Swan is becoming PICO Space Pro
PICO introduced its 2026 flagship in March under the codename Project Swan. In that announcement, PICO described Swan as the hardware counterpart to its completely rebuilt PICO OS 6 platform and said the device was targeting a 2026 global launch. You can read our earlier Project Swan analysis on VR Expert for the original positioning. The PICO Space Pro name also had an official paper trail before this week. The UK Intellectual Property Office published a trademark journal on 3 July listing “PICO Space Pro” under PICO Technology Co., Ltd. A trademark filing alone is never proof of a final product name, but PICO’s new launch teaser now uses the name publicly. The teaser image itself announces a “PICO Space Pro” product launch event for 2 September 2026 at 2:30 PM Beijing time. The important distinction is that this confirms a China launch event. It should not yet be read as a confirmed Europe, US or worldwide on-sale date.
What PICO has already confirmed about Space Pro
PICO has not released the final Space Pro specification sheet, but its official Project Swan developer material already confirms several major hardware and platform changes.
Dual 4K Micro-OLED displays
The display system is one of the clearest jumps. PICO says the headset uses dual 4K Micro-OLED displays with around 4,000 pixels per inch. The company quotes approximately 40 pixels per degree across the display and up to 45 PPD in the central viewing area. That level of pixel density is especially relevant to professional workflows where small text, dashboards, CAD interfaces and detailed 3D models need to remain readable. PICO itself is positioning the optical stack around clarity suitable for productivity rather than treating resolution as a purely entertainment-focused specification.
Custom PICO Silicon and a dual-chip architecture
Space Pro is also built around a dual-chip approach. PICO has developed custom silicon dedicated to real-time sensing, spatial computing and image processing, working alongside a separate flagship system-on-chip. PICO claims 12 milliseconds of end-to-end mixed-reality latency for the perception and imaging pipeline. On its official developer pages, PICO says the main SoC delivers more than twice the CPU and GPU performance of Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. PICO’s Chinese developer page gives more specific figures of 133% higher CPU performance and 127% higher GPU performance compared with XR2 Gen 2.
PICO OS 6 is a core part of the device
The hardware story is closely tied to PICO OS 6. PICO says the operating system was rebuilt over two years around a new PICO Spatial Engine that moves more rendering responsibility from individual applications into the system layer. The practical goal is spatial multitasking. PICO OS 6 is designed so 2D applications, 3D objects, immersive environments and the physical world can coexist in one shared space. PICO also lists support for eye and hand interaction, controllers, motion trackers, keyboards, mice and gamepads at the platform level. For developers, the platform remains intentionally broad. PICO has published support for OpenXR, Android applications, PCVR, WebXR, Unity and Unreal workflows. It is also developing WebSpatial, an open-source framework that uses familiar web technologies such as HTML, CSS and React to create spatial applications.

Why this matters for enterprise XR
For businesses, the Space Pro story is more significant than a normal annual hardware refresh. The combination of a much higher-density display, dedicated mixed-reality processing and a new OS architecture suggests PICO is targeting longer, more complex spatial workflows rather than only short immersive sessions. The most obvious enterprise opportunities are high-detail design review, engineering visualization, training that combines physical context with digital overlays, and multi-application workflows where users need documents, browsers, communication tools and 3D content visible at the same time. These are credible use cases based on PICO’s public platform direction, but final suitability will still depend on ergonomics, software maturity, management tooling and commercial terms. VR Expert is an official PICO distributor and already supports business deployments across the PICO headset portfolio. For current projects that need hardware now, the PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise remains PICO’s established enterprise headset. Space Pro is the device to watch for teams planning the next generation of their XR stack.
PICO Space Pro vs PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise: what can we say today?
A full comparison would be premature before 2 September, but the confirmed information already shows that PICO Space Pro is not simply a renamed PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise.
| Area | PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise | PICO Space Pro - confirmed so far |
| Display | 2160 x 2160 per eye LCD | Dual 4K Micro-OLED; ~4,000 PPI; ~40 PPD / up to 45 PPD center |
| Main compute | Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 | Unnamed flagship SoC with >2x CPU/GPU performance claim vs XR2 Gen 2 |
| Dedicated MR chip | No separate PICO MR silicon announced | Custom PICO Silicon; 12 ms end-to-end MR latency claim |
| Operating system | PICO Enterprise OS / current PICO software stack | PICO OS 6, rebuilt around PICO Spatial Engine |
| Availability | Available now through VR Expert | China launch event confirmed for 2 September; international retail timing not yet public |
What PICO has not announced yet
There is still a substantial amount we do not know. As of 19 August, PICO has not publicly provided a complete global Space Pro product page or final commercial specification sheet. The following points remain open:
- Price and regional pricing
- Europe, US and other international retail availability dates
- Final headset weight, dimensions and balance
- Battery capacity and expected runtime
- Field of view and final optical specifications beyond PPD/PPI
- RAM and storage configurations
- The exact model of the flagship SoC
- What controllers or accessories are included
- Whether PICO will offer a separate Enterprise SKU or enterprise-specific commercial package
- Final fleet-management, security, warranty and support terms for business deployments
Some of these questions may be answered during the September 2 event, but they should not be treated as confirmed agenda items until PICO publishes them.
What to watch on September 2
The September 2 event should give us the first complete view of what PICO Space Pro is as a commercial product. From an enterprise perspective, the most important things to watch are the final industrial design and comfort, the full hardware specification, pricing, availability, enterprise device-management options, software compatibility and the international rollout roadmap. We will update this coverage once PICO publishes the final details.
