The Vuzix Blade Upgraded does work without a smartphone, but connecting a smartphone to your Vuzix Blade Upgraded is useful because it makes it a lot easier to control the Vuzix Blade Upgraded. You can connect your Vuzix Blade Upgraded to a smartphone with the Vuzix Companion App.
