HTC tweeted about a new virtual reality accessory for its Vive headsets. The new module resembles the lip tracker that HTC announced at the Game Developers Conference in 2019.
Register mouth movements with lip tracker
The accessory follows the mouth movements of the user, making it possible to follow speech and translate it into digital avatars. In combination with eye and hand tracking, this would ensure realistic characters in VR. This takes interactions with other avatars to the next level for greater realism. Developer Solitrax is already using the tracker and social VR game Neos VR already supports this.
Lip tracking takes social VR to the next level
According to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook and Oculus CEO realistic avatars are essential for the future of virtual reality. The lip tracker is a big step to make VR more realistic. HTC often teases its products via Twitter, for added media exposure, HTC also teased its new VR tracker on the platform earlier. The tracker would work with the HTC Vive Cosmos and Focus Plus headsets.
