Airpro brings technical careers to life with VR Expert
Airpro is a Dutch air-handling specialist based in Waalwijk. Founded in 2005, the company designs, produces and installs air-handling systems for projects across the Netherlands, including commercial buildings, healthcare facilities and industrial sites.
Its work brings together technical design and installation on construction sites. Airpro also invests in developing its people through courses, internal training and a buddy programme for new employees. Introducing people to the work is an important part of that process.
Making the work visible
For students exploring technical careers, a job title alone says little about what a working day looks like. Airpro wanted an experience that would let people see the environment and try activities connected to the work, including during visits to schools and events.
Realism mattered. Airpro compared three software providers and looked closely at their previous projects. The team wanted a recognisable construction environment, so realistic buildings and graphics were central to its choice of development partner.
The resulting VR application works as a job simulator. It introduces participants to duties they could encounter at Airpro and gives the team a practical way to explain what the job involves.
Choosing the hardware with VR Expert
With the software being developed by a specialist partner, Airpro turned to VR Expert for the hardware. We discussed headset options with the team and recommended the PICO 4 Ultra for the application. Airpro followed that recommendation.
The focus was on finding a setup that suited how Airpro planned to use the simulator, including the accessories needed to transport the equipment and keep it powered during activities.
VR at schools and events
Airpro normally takes two headsets to its activities and rotates participants through the experience. Alongside the VR simulator, the team also offers an activity people can try in real life. This gives visitors two ways to explore the work and talk to Airpro about it.
For a larger event, Airpro rented two additional headsets from VR Expert, bringing the total to four. Combining owned equipment with VR Expert’s rental service lets the company increase the number of available devices for a specific occasion while keeping its regular setup small.
An introduction for new employees
The simulator also has a role inside the company. Airpro uses it with new employees who are unfamiliar with the work, giving them a first look at the environment and the tasks they can expect.
This is an introductory use of VR within onboarding. It fits alongside the guidance and learning opportunities described on Airpro’s careers page, helping the company explain its work to people joining from different backgrounds.
Keeping the headsets ready for use
Alongside the headsets, Airpro purchased two single cases, one BOBOVR BD3/BD3-C Charging Dock, two BOBOVR B100 Battery Packs and two BOBOVR P4U head straps for B100 batteries.
The battery setup lets Airpro keep using the VR headsets while other batteries recharge between uses. The team can rotate the B100 battery packs through the charging dock, while the single cases provide storage for transporting the headsets.
With the hardware and accessories in place, Airpro can focus on introducing people to its work. The simulator gives participants a first look at the job and a starting point for discussing a career in air handling.
