Product information Lynx R1

The Lynx R1 is the first multipurpose standalone VR and AR headset in one device offering true mixed reality capabilities. The Lynx R1 is equipped with all that is needed to either be used as a standalone VR headset as well as a standalone AR headset or both at the same time. Due to this is it ideal for a variety of use cases like remote assistance, visual guided instructions or tele operations.

The Lynx R1 has the following key advantages:

Standalone Mixed Reality

First, the Lynx R1 is a standalone Mixed Reality headset, what makes it unique is that it can also be used as a fully standalone VR headset or AR headset, easily switching between the different modes or both simultaneously in the same app. The VR mode can be enhanced using a magnetic facial cover which blocks out light. This has a huge benefit as this makes the Lynx R1 highly versatile as your organisation can use it for multiple purposes because of its dual abilities. This makes it easier to integrate into your organisation as well as manage because of having a single device. An added benefit of the Lynx R1 is that the visor of the Lynx R1 can be flipped up 90 degrees, allowing users to easily exit the XR experience and enter it.

Built with data and privacy in mind

Second, the Lynx R1 has been completely built with privacy and data protection in mind. Unlike some other VR and AR headsets, users can easily deactivate any sensor that may collect sensitive information. Along with this, the device can be used completely offline to avoid any data being shared. Finally, the operating system running on the device can be reviewed to ensure security and data protection practices are being followed.

Innovative prism optics

Third, the catadioptric freeform prism optics of the Lynx R1 is a new design by Lynx. The prism shape is used to reflect light within the lens, enabling a shorter distance between your eyes and the display, creating a thinner form factor.

Comfortable and lightweight

Fourth, a lightweight design with 4-fold catadioptric freeform prism optics enables a lightweight face, this is as the smaller prism optics take up less space than for example fresnel or pancake lenses. A battery pack at the back of the headset enables weight to be distributed evenly creating a more comfortable viewing experience. This enables the device to be used for long periods with comfort.

Open Operating System

Fifth, the Lynx R1 runs on an open Android 10 operating system. This means you can change certain settings for enterprise use. Examples of these changes are things such as deactivating buttons or kiosk mode. As well as sideloading APK’s and using MDM’s.

Native Hand Tracking and Controller Integration

Finally, the Lynx R1 can be controlled completely with your hands thanks to its native hand tracking capabilities. This makes the device usable as a hands-free screen, avoiding the issue with many VR & AR headsets where you have to constantly be picking up & putting down controllers.
The Lynx has a specialised software that works with 2 external cameras to manage all the hand tracking. The specialised software has the ability to tracking not only the users hands but also each individual fingers to a high degree of accuracy and with low latency. Furthermore the use of infra-red cameras allows the hand tracking to continue working with high accuracy in dark environments.
Even though the Lynx R1 can be completely controlled with your hands, the headset can be used with the purpose built Lynx R1 6DOF controllers. Giving your organisation the flexibility to decide which best suits your use case.
