Damen Shipyards Group is a Dutch shipbuilding group with more than thirty operating companies at home and abroad. The company is characterized by over 90 years of experience. Damen shipyards Group has more than 150 projects per year on which they work with many highly trained professionals. In addition, Damen Shipyards Group is always looking for innovative ways to support employees in their work.

The question

Damen Shipyards has been looking for digital ways to support work related to the construction and repair of ships. The Covid-19 crisis created more urgency to support employees as experts were no longer able to travel. That is why the Damen Shipyards Group asked the VR-Expert team what digital ways there are for providing remote support.

The solution

Damen Shipyards Group eventually put together a RealWear HMT-1 solution consisting of hardware, software and services, the VR-Expert team played a guiding role in putting together the kit. The RealWears were chosen because of the robustness of the product and its suitability for use in industrial environments.

The Damen Shipyards Group made the choice to work with the Microsoft Teams software that was already known within the organization. This way, employees could continue to use existing accounts and no additional costs were incurred in the field of software. The VR-Expert team played a supporting role in the implementation process of the RealWear solution within the Damen Shipyards Group. Intotal, the Damen Shipyards Group purchased 20 RealWears from the VR Expert team. The RealWears are used successfully in various projects all over the world.
